Everyday activities

Activities take place in two groups; the beginner group (younger children), with 15 children, and the older group with 15 children who have been at the playschool for a year already. Teachers use Finnish and English with the beginners group and only English with the older children.

Language instruction: Structured language instruction is done in three groups based on age: 4 year old beginners, 5 year old children called "viskarit" and 6 year old preschoolers called "eskarit". Preschool instruction is given in Finnish, and the aim is to support first language development, linguistic awareness and give the child the best possible means to learn to read. The purpose of the preschool instruction is to support and promote the child's growth and development, and to enable him or her to make a seamless transition into school.

In addition to the program at playschool, the weekly activities can include:
- outings and games outside (Lahnalahti Park)
- field trips (e.g. theatres, museums and the library)
- physical activites, team games and play (in parks and Kasinonranta Beach)
- music (music instructor Sanna Ukkonen)
- drawing, painting and crafts
- nature school (morning trips in Lauttasaari close to the sea)
